Year 1 used blackcurrant jelly to learn about weights and measures

Year 1 have been hard at work in maths learning about weights and measures and combining this with our Science topic on materials. We loved weighing out jelly powder, looking at the numbers on the scale and then talking about the materials we use to make it and how they change. We learnt to use some new words like “transparent” and “opaque” too. The blackcurrant jelly made the classroom smell delicious!

We made scales and see-saws in the woods for Forest School.

We have also thoroughly enjoyed exploring our History topic of “Homes in the Past” and we have been reading some very interesting books in English about children living in the Victorian times. We made scrap books about homes then and now!
